 Notes from the Edge 04-29-24 Good Monday morning. It is 5:20 a.m. here and I have been up and working on posts since a little after 1:30 a.m. It is crazy how, in a bubble (My world, as it is) time just flips around all over the place. When you are disabled, retired and have little to no responsibilities your world begins to revolve around the few you have. So, we fell asleep last night at the amazingly late hour of 5:30 p.m. In fact, that was right after my wife said "We are not going to bed before 8:30 p.m. tonight! Damnit!" And of course we were knocked out within seconds, God proving us wrong again. The weekend seemed excessively long to me. I am trying to get seedlings growing and, so far, the best I can do is one up and thriving out of an original 4, so, I planted three more to cover the three that didn't sprout and then decided to plant 4 more to help my odds. So, 7 more that I hope will all sprout. Out of those I am hoping for 4 that will see their way through to

 Notes from the Edge 04-27-2024 10:23 a.m. Well, here it is almost May. It appears as though spring has finally sprung here in Northern New York, or, as I like to think of it, Little Canada. That has been a joke with myself and my friends since we were little kids. It was because we live so close to Canada that we could pick up the Canadian television stations better than we could the American television stations. And as a teenager I probably spent as much time in Canada as I did in this area. It was like going over to the next little town. No different. Canada is a little over 30 miles to the border; the biggest actual city close to us is over seventy miles away. Why drive seventy miles for my dumb small-town self to get mugged when I can drive 30 or so and feel relatively safe in Canada, hey? The thing I appreciated, as a curious young boy, was that channel 13, CJOH in Canada, did not censor their television broadcasts. If you watched a movie and it had anything risqué in it, they

 Notes from the Edge 04-21-2024 E.R. Visit Wound up in the E.R. the other evening/morning with my wife who was not feeling well; wow, what an eye opener that was. Got there the previous afternoon at around 4:00 PM or so. It was semi busy, looked about the same as it did twenty years ago, the last time I was in an E.R. waiting anyway; but within just a few moments I realized how different it was. The first thing I noticed was Homeless People in the ER. Lounging, stealing pens and talking nurses and security staff into crackers, sodas, ice water, socks. I was amazed at how things were. Who knew? Well, apparently the hospital is because one of the homeless people was a handful for several hours. He got a staff member to give him a glass of ice and then went over to an abandoned half bottle of soda and poured over the ice and drank it. The man across from him said something to him and he made several colorful remarks back including "It ain't your f*ckin' soda so shut the f*ck

 Notes from the Edge        Posted 04-19-2024 It has been a good week here. It was a week with a lot to do and it kept me away from writing for the most part. For the lesser part, though, I did get all of my ducks in a row. Therefore, Monday I will be able to jump in. I will also try to get an Earth's Survivors Book 4 preview out soon too. It is a good book. I think you will like it. Nevertheless, since it was written two years ago I had forgotten exactly how it went. I was shocked when I opened the front cover and realized which story it was. Cannot say more, but you will probably be very surprised. There is a small preview in the back of Book 3, I just need to get a longer preview done and get it into a PDF format and on Writerz.net, Geo, Jays, and Dell's sites, and the Earth's Survivors site too. Same politicians with the same promises, same clouds in the sky, same snow on the ground, same turkeys trying to eat my Fred cat. I know it sounds funny, but it isn't. As you probably didn't know we're out here in the boondocks, well, the lesser boondocks, okay, the suburbs of the boondocks. There are some woods here, okay? The turkeys live in the woods, and that's fine. That's fine because Fred lives in the house. No problem, except Fred was converted from a  do whatever she wanted to cat  to a live in the house cat and that means that sometimes Fred gets the urge to go out into the wilds of the back yard and look around. That brings Fred into conflict with the Turkeys. When Fred and I were just getting to know each other, she decided to impress me. I am doing the after birthday regretting prayer, ie I ate too much, drank too much and I'm still really old and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. And the beer didn't soften the fact that Father Time took another bite out of me. Doing my blog today and loving the fact that it stopped raining earlier when the weather forecast came in and they are calling for snow tomorrow. Wow. It is crazy this year. Let it snow. I have plants to go out, but I have not transplanted them, and some of them are not even up yet because of how crazy the weather has been. Marijuana is legal here in my state. I can't stand it, never could, when I tried it as a kid it always made me sick, so I stuck to the Colt 45 and the Boones' Farm Apple Wine or Strawberry Hill. Yes, as a kid.
